Gardening for TWO

So as you all know, Earth Day was last month. Since my daughter has been learning a lot about the life cycles of plants, as well as butterflies and other animals, I thought it would be a great idea to plant some flowers in the back patio. Mind you, I don't know too much about gardening, except what I've learned from my grandma as a child, but I figured we could learn together.

We took a trip to the store and got some seeds, some gardening tools and a water hose. First we had to get all the weeds out the patch. The are looked like it hadn't been weeded for a long time but eventually we got the weeds out. We dug some holes and planted just about a whole box of seeds and then we watered them.

This had probably been one of the coolest things we've done together because, for one, it has been teaching her to be responsible for something other than herself or her things. Also, its something that we can call our own and be proud of, especially since we can see little leaves sprouting now :) And, doing something outside of school that she is learning about at school helps to demonstrate what she learns so she can retain a lot more.

It's always a great thing when you can learn and have fun at the same time!

Happy gardening! :)
